PURPOSE OF ROLE 

We are currently working with a leading insurance provider who is looking to hire a commercial combined underwriter. Our client are also happy to consider an Assistant Underwriter looking for the next step in their career. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced underwriter, ideally with a background in commercial combined to join a growing team. As a key player in the business, you'll have the chance to develop and manage a profitable portfolio while building and nurturing strong broker relationships.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is motivated and eager to take on more responsibility and grow an account.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Underwrite a broad range of commercial combined risks, ensuring that all policies are accurately assessed, priced, and aligned with company guidelines
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, acting as a key point of contact for underwriting queries and assisting in their development
  • Identify new business opportunities and work proactively to grow existing accounts
  • Assist senior management in contributing to the strategic development of the commercial book of business
  • Review new business submissions, mid-term adjustments, and renewals
  • Regularly assess and manage portfolio performance, providing insight and reporting where required
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.

DAY-TO-DAY 

  • The role involves underwriting new and renewal business, pricing and assessing risk in line with company guidelines
  • You will maintain regular contact with brokers to manage existing accounts, handle renewals, and respond to queries
  • The day-to-day also includes seeking opportunities to expand accounts, ensuring consistent portfolio growth
  • You will collaborate with internal teams to ensure policies are fully compliant with industry standards and that the client experience remains high

SKILLS 

  • Strong communication skills are key to building and maintaining effective relationships with brokers and clients
  • Excellent negotiation skills with a proactive, solution-oriented approach to underwriting
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage your own workload
  • Exceptional attention to detail, combined with strong analytical skills
  • A motivated self-starter who is driven to achieve results and grow your accounts
  • A deep understanding of the commercial insurance market and the underwriting process
