Counsellor

Location: The post will be based at EACH premises and post holder will be required to work from any of EACH’s locations based on the needs of the service. Remote working may be required.
Salary: ÂŁ28,392 - ÂŁ30,708 (including Outer London Weighting) for Full Time Equivalent (37.5hrs)
Hours: 37.5 Hours (DV counselling project)
Qualifications: Recognised counselling qualification and registration with appropriate professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP)
Contract: Subject to continuous funding and performance.

We are looking for qualified counsellors who are skilled in their practice and compassionate about making a difference to people’s lives to help them recover from the impact of mental health, trauma and domestic abuse.

Main Purpose: 

As our Counsellor, you will provide one-to-one emotional support, structured counselling, and group work to BAME women, who have experienced domestic violence and abuse and who face mental health difficulties. 

You will also provide trauma informed counselling based on the needs of clients. The main focus of support lies on 1:1 short- to medium term counselling. Understand and conduct risk assessments and safety planning: Assess any immediate danger to victims and their children, and create comprehensive safety plans, which can include short term crisis intervention and longer-term strategies.

Main Responsibilities:

• Assess counselling goals and provide appropriate short- or longer-term counselling to meet individual needs of a client by using appropriate therapeutic interventions 
• Ensure appropriate discharge and referral and signposting. 
• Develop and provide group-work where appropriate. 
• Respond to Safeguarding concerns (Children and Adults at Risk) as per EACH’s policies and procedures and local Safeguarding Protocols. 
• Work effectively within the team and contribute to its development. 
• Contribute to the development of online support, e.g. web-based workshops. 
• Work effectively with other professionals and agencies to utilise appropriate care pathways and relevant services, e.g. substance misuse services, GPs, the police, housing, employment. 
• Where a client disengages, undertake appropriate follow up to ensure safety and re introduction to EACH. 
• Keep records as required using internal systems and provide monitoring information. 
• Help review the project’s work and its impact for service development, including through user feedback and involvement.

Requirements:

• A recognised counselling qualification (minimum diploma level or equivalent) and registration with a professional governing body (e.g. BACP, UKCP). 
• Experience in counselling and supporting members of BAME communities affected by mental health challenges and/or domestic violence and abuse. 
• Ability to conduct counselling and provide support in a community language (Farsi, Pashto, Dari, Arabic) and/or of the local BAME communities (Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil, Somali). 
• Knowledge of the issues and barriers faced by BAME communities. 
• Understanding of mental health and domestic abuse issues. 
• Flexibility to work – potentially on one evening a week with late start and remote work
