Service Care Legal are working with a North London Borough Council is seeking an experienced Childcare Lawyer to join their legal team on an interim basis. This is a hybrid role with flexible remote working, requiring office attendance twice a week.Role:                     Childcare LawyerLocation:             North London Borough Council (Hybrid – 2 days in office per week)Rate:                     £39.58 to £49.38ph LTD (DOE and interview performance) Contract Type:    3 months with possibility of extensionPlease note that this role would require office attendance 2 days per week.The Role
  • Undertake complex care proceedings on behalf of the Local Authority.
  • Provide legal advice in pre-proceedings (PLO), Special Educational Needs (SEN) matters, and participate in Legal Planning Meetings.
  • Support a wide range of safeguarding work including child protection, vulnerable adults (including mental health), and adult protection.
  • Advise on homelessness, housing appeals, and judicial reviews relating to children’s services and associated areas.
  • Prepare and process all legal documentation relevant to client groups.
  • Attend and present cases before Courts, Tribunals, or Public Inquiries as required.
  • Advocacy is not mandatory but may be required in emergency cases if counsel is unavailable.
The Person
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Legal Executive.
  • Significant experience in public law childcare proceedings.
  • Sound knowledge of legislation relating to children’s services and safeguarding.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and effectively.
  • Local authority legal team experience is highly desirable.
