Street Works Inspector
Salary: £37,000 - £40,000 per annum
Permanent, Full-time

We're looking for an experienced Street Works Inspector to join our Highways team in London. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in managing and coordinating street works activity, helping to keep traffic moving and minimise disruption across the borough.
As Street Works Inspector , you'll support the delivery of the council's duties under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) and the Traffic Management Act 2004, ensuring works on the public highway are properly planned, monitored, and carried out to a high standard. You'll work closely with utility companies, contractors, and other stakeholders to keep our road network safe and efficient.

What you'll be doing:
·Assessing and managing permit applications, issuing Fixed Penalty Notices and Section 74 Overrun Warnings where necessary.
·Monitoring and inspecting works on the public highway, ensuring reinstatements meet required standards.
·Coordinating with utility companies and contractors to minimise disruption and congestion.
·Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports on works, performance, and compliance.
·Acting as a key point of contact for your area, liaising with residents, councillors, MPs, and other stakeholders.
·Supporting continuous improvements in how we manage highways works and planned events.

About you:
We're seeking someone with strong communication and organisational skills, who can work independently and take ownership of their area. You'll need:
·Experience or knowledge of NRSWA, the Traffic Management Act or highways/utility works.
·Confidence in assessing permits, enforcing compliance, and resolving issues on site.
·The ability to analyse data, prepare reports, and work with multiple stakeholders.
·A customer-focused approach, with the ability to balance technical requirements with public needs.
