Morson Talent are currently looking for an Area Delivery Manager to join a nuclear new build project in East Anglia.
This role is inside IR35 and contracting until Dec 2025 but likely to be extended due to the length and size of the project. It will be based at the Suffolk office with hybrid working available
Reporting to the Area Delivery Lead, this post is responsible for supporting the overarching direction & leadership of activities associated with the full life cycle delivery of one of the Site Delivery sub-programmes. You will have responsibility to lead/manage a multi-disciplinary group managers at various levels within the Engineering, Commercial, Project & Construction Management communities (10 +), to ensure delivery of a large scope of Earthworks, Enabling works (including UXO, ecology, archaeology), Civils, Networks and Buildings. The role will entail interface with a matrix team of wider disciplines forming the project delivery team eg: the SZC supply chain team, the SZC quality team and suppliers.
Primary scope will focus on
• Site Delivery – Sub Programme Area (tbc): the role will assist the Area Delivery Lead in delivering scope to cost, schedule and quality. This post also has the responsibility to ensure operational delivery of all (or part of) the engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction and commissioning activities or work package, in accordance with the overall Project schedule
• Site Delivery – Programme Assurance : the role will assist the Area Delivery Lead in monitoring delivery against programme of wider project activities including reviews of mitigation plans to recover any delays experienced within Site Delivery programme with recommendations for improvement to secure delivery of scope to schedule.
• Site delivery – HSEQ Delivery the role will assist the Area Delivery Lead in ensuring that all delivery across the Site Delivery sub-programme is cognisant of industry best practise and compliant with SZC standards.
Principal Accountabilities
• Work with the Project Teams to define the work scope to be delivered within the contracts or packages of work and the interfaces to the other elements of the programme.
• Work with the Area Delivery Lead to identify the required resources to meet project requirements, ensuring the maintenance of SQEP for any assigned resource and promptly identifying any personnel shortfalls or issues within the project team.
• Providing direction to the teams to ensure effective execution of strategies and plans in line with the overall Programme Execution Plan (PEP), setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised and executed.
• Maintaining effective communications with all stakeholders and execute the project or PEP strategies.
• Drive the delivery of the contract or package activities to ensure they are delivered safely on time, to budget, meeting business and technical requirements. Monitor and manage the progress of the programme - track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget and provide the Site Delivery Leadership team with reports on these matters.
• Identify risks and facilitate the resolution of issues raised, develop and propose updates to the programme and/or budget.
• Drive the team to ensure schedule is developed and maintained on their scope, consistently within the overall Project schedule. Escalate any discrepancies to the Area Delivery Lead.
• Ensure the List of Deliverables (LOD) relating to the scope of work is delivered.
• Apply the principles of Continuous Improvement.
• Ensure that lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.
• Interface with other programmes to ensure a high-level view of how the total project is progressing and to identify and adopt the use of best practice.
• Ensure that contract or package contractual requirements are fulfilled.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all project team members.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
• Track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
• Demonstrate success in managing / developing:
o Engineering design, contract and field execution strategies for project delivery,
o Multi-discipline EPCM projects,
o Procurement and management of complex contracts,
o Control of costs risk schedule and change and proficient in the use of Earned Value tools,
• Experience of successfully engaging groups of stakeholders.
• Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation. Proficient in the use of estimating scheduling, programming and risk tools.
• Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment. Including NEC contracts.
• Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Degree and chartered status in an engineering, construction or other related field.
• Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
• Can demonstrate experience of managing project through the project lifecycle from concept to handover.
• Understanding the needs of nuclear quality and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled.
• Understand how to apply a graded approach to quality.
