We require a Civilian Investigator to cover an existing workload within Metropolitan Police, based in Putney (Hybrid working – 4 days office / 1 day home working).

This is an interim position for an initial 6 months with the potential to be extended, dependent on workload.

Job Purpose:

  • Civilian Investigator is required to assist Specialist Crime South (MIT 11) with the investigation into the fatal gas explosion that occurred in a residential street in Mitcham in August 2022.
  • The explosion tragically caused the death of four-year-old child.
  • This is a complex investigation into Corporate and Gross Negligence Manslaughter, with multiple lines of enquiry being led by the Metropolitan Police Service alongside the Health and Safety Executive.
  • The investigation is now in the digital review phase, focussing on the review of staff’s digital accounts and actions as well as company records and practices. This review will be the focus of the role.
  • The team are based at Putney, however, there is flexibility to work remotely 2 day a week.
  • This will be 4 days in the office and 1 day at home a week subject to other commitments of the team.

Skills and experience needed to be successful in this role:

  • PIP2 accreditation is desirable, however, an investigative background, including experience of compiling files (preferably of an investigative nature) and previous experience in dealing with people (in particular statement taking and in victim interviewing techniques) is essential.
  • Knowledge of criminal law and Police procedures.
  • The ability to appraise, evaluate, collate and present information/evidence obtained, in order to ensure that all relevant information/evidence is at hand and is of a high standard.
  • The ability to communicate effectively (commensurate with the grade and requirements of the post) with managers, members of staff (at all levels) and members of the public.
  • Motivated and disciplined style working on own initiative to complete the task and as part of a team to achieve overall objectives.
