The Exhibition Road Cultural Group (ERCG), a partnership of 22 of the leading arts, culture and science organisations and academic institutions in South Kensington, is seeking an Interim Director, maternity cover.  

Harnessing the collective power of the organisations which make up the world’s original cultural quarter, the ERCG’s mission is to provide a strong, unified voice for the district, using combined strength to address shared challenges and achieve change. 

The Interim Director will be a passionate and collaborative leader who can deliver a vision of a thriving cultural district that is accessible, welcoming, enjoyable and future-facing for all who visit, work, live and study in South Kensington.  

An effective advocate, the Interim Director will possess the creativity, diplomacy and practical ability to utilize the creativity and expertise contained in ERCG member organisations to manage  
cross-organisational projects and programmes designed to promote and develop the district.  

Current ERCG initiatives include: Discover South Kensington, the ERCG’s public facing brand (currently under review and development), a destination marketing website, newsletter and social channels which promote and celebrate the wealth of activities, events and exhibitions which take place in the district; South Ken ZEN+, which addresses the most pressing issue of our day by bringing together South Kensington’s institutions to become a global exemplar of carbon zero, nature positive neighbourhood and the Great Exhibition Road Festival, an annual 2-day celebration of science and the arts in South Kensington, produced in collaboration with Imperial.  

With delegated responsibility from the Board of Trustees to deliver a newly created strategy (developing throughout Autumn 2025) aligned to the ERCG’s charitable mission, the Interim Director will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the organization and for a small team, including volunteers and contracted staff.  
Representing ERCG at every level, including liaising with local and national politicians and government bodies, local residents, colleagues and senior executives across our partner institutions, this role requires energy and enthusiasm to initiate and establish activity across a varied network. 

Contract: Temporary 

Location: The Exhibition Road Cultural Group is currently located at the Natural History Museum in South Kensington, London. There is the option to work from home 1 - 2 days per week, depending on requirements of the role.   

Hours: 4 days per week (32 hours a week). There may be some flexibility for the right candidate. 
Holiday entitlement is 25 days pro rata per year, excluding Bank Holiday.  

Salary: £60,000 per year (equivalent to £75k pro rata), plus pension contribution of 8%
