The main purpose of the job

Within the OCD & Related Disorders Unit, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate treatment of OCD, BDD, Health anxiety, Emetophobia, Trichotillomania and related disorders. As an Occupational Therapist in our inpatient OCD unit, you will need to be proficient in assessment and evaluation, treatment planning and implementation, and intervention strategies including cognitive-behavioural techniques, sensory modulation, social skills training, life skills training and creative activities. You will play a crucial role in facilitating exposure and response prevention (ERP) groups, and weekly and daily planning of patient activities. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support patient well-being and recovery within a therapeutic environment, including a key role in weekly multidisciplinary clinical review meetings.

The post-holders duties will include:

  • Assessment and evaluation
  • Treatment planning and implementation, including one-to-one and group work
  • Plan and deliver weekly OT skills groups, including a range of life skills and creative work
  • Co-facilitation and facilitation of ERP groups
  • Plan and lead weekly community outings
  • Lead weekly planning and daily planning groups
  • Play a leading role as a part of the multidisciplinary team providing feedback on patient engagement and progress to the therapy team and other allied health team members on a daily basis and as required.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, progress notes, and treatment plans in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • To be a committed and flexible member of the Therapy team, including prompt attendance and minimal absence, and willingness to assist in the daily running of the department when there is sickness and annual leave.
  • Attendance at therapy team meetings

Job type: Full time 5 days per week (open to 4 days per week)

Requirements

The following skills and qualifications are essential:

  • Degree: bachelors or masters degree in occupational therapy.
  • Registration: Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification experience, including significant experience in mental health, preferably within an inpatient setting.
  • Skills: Proficient in mental health assessment, risk management, and developing recovery-focused intervention plans. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of relevant legislation and standards (e.g., Mental Health Act, Care Programme Approach), as well as an understanding of professional standards of care for mental health.
