Randstad are seeking a reliable and experienced Maintenance Plumber to join our client's estates and facilities team in a busy hospital environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, fault finding, and repair of plumbing systems, ensuring the site remains compliant with health and safety regulations, particularly HTM 04-01, L8 (Legionella control), and water treatment procedures.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across a wide range of plumbing systems within the hospital estate

  • Diagnose and repair leaks, pipework issues, faulty fixtures, and drainage problems in clinical and non-clinical areas

  • Conduct Legionella monitoring and control tasks, including temperature checks, flushing, descaling, and recording in line with L8 regulations

  • Maintain and service hot and cold-water systems, including storage tanks, calorifiers, TMVs, expansion vessels, and pumps

  • Monitor and maintain water treatment systems, including chemical dosing equipment, softeners, filtration, and sampling

  • Assist in the isolation and shutdown of systems to carry out repairs with minimal disruption to clinical services

  • Carry out inspections and testing of backflow prevention devices, emergency eye wash stations, and safety showers

  • Complete compliance documentation and logbooks accurately and on time (digital or paper-based)

  • Liaise with estates management, infection control teams, and contractors to ensure effective communication

  • Support other trades as necessary and work collaboratively with multi-skilled technicians across the hospital

  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with NHS Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs) and local procedures

  • Maintain tools, PPE, and materials in a safe, compliant manner

  • Participate in on-call rotas and emergency response as required



Essential Requirements:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing & Heating (or equivalent City & Guilds qualification)
  • Strong experience in a hospital or healthcare maintenance environment

  • Solid understanding of Legionella control (L8) and HTM 04-01 guidance

  • Proven background in leak detection, repairs, and plumbing system diagnostics

  • Experience with water treatment systems, chemical dosing, and testing

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work professionally in patient-sensitive areas

  • Awareness of infection control, health & safety, and COSHH regulations



Desirable Qualifications:

  • Unvented Hot Water Certificate (G3)

  • Legionella Awareness or Responsible Person Training

  • PASMA/IPAF or similar access certifications
