NIANRO Consulting is a small, independent research agency specialising in racial justice and social policy.  Clients include government and non-government organisations, universities, schools and charities. We recently completed an eight month qualitative study examining the career experiences of Black, Asian and minority ethnic prison educators and we are currently carrying out an independent mixed methods review of racism for a national professional organisation. We are looking for an experienced researcher to join us.

We are looking for someone personable, hardworking, analytical and reliable who is accustomed to working independently as well as in collaboration with others. You will be able to code and interpret data, identify patterns and connections as well as areas of dissonance. You understand the complexities of race and racism and the ways these issues can play out within organisations and how your own identity informs the research process. You possess good communication skills and would work well as part of a friendly, ethnically mixed team. Where practical, we tend to carry out client meetings and data collection in person so you should live in or, in close proximity to, London.

We welcome applications from researchers who can evidence the following:

  • Experience of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Demonstrable experience of survey design and analysis
  • Experience of designing interview schedules, conducting focus groups and one-to-one in-depth interviews (online and in person)
  • Confidence using research software including SurveyMonkey, NVIVO, SPSS, EXCEL
  • Specialist knowledge of racial justice in the UK, Europe or US gained, for example, through academic study or working in an organisation specialising in equity/social justice
  • Has an understanding of how their identity and positionality impacts the research process
  • Has practical knowledge of ethical research practice and data protection measures
  • Is London based or lives within easy access of London and is open to in person meetings
  • Experience of report writing for a wide client-base would be a plus

Hours: approximately 4-12 hours per week, depending on the project lifecycle, during standard office hours. The majority of this time (approx. 75%) can be carried out virtually.

Fee: £30-38 per hour (depending on experience)
