This role will start as temporary for the first 6 months, with the opportunity to go permanent for the right candidate.

Our client is a leading multi-discipline contractor with a large presence across the transportation sector. They are recruiting an Assistant Buyer to support procurement activities on a major rail enhancement project in Acton.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with procurement or purchasing experience to work closely with the Procurement, and develop your skills and progress within the business. Graduates with working experience are encouraged to apply to this role.

As the Assistant Buyer, you will be responsible for supporting the Procurement Manager with procuring subcontractors and suppliers, purchasing and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and issue subcontract tenders and paperwork
  • Negotiate with suppliers to get the best price, quality, and delivery times
  • Process purchase requests from approved suppliers, making sure they meet budget and quality standards
  • Support meetings by preparing agendas, taking notes and sharing follow-ups
  • Produce simple reports, spreadsheets, and presentations using MS Office
  • Handle incoming enquiries and correspondence, drafting responses where needed


The ideal Assistant Buyer will have:

  • Proven experience in procurement or buying activities within transportation.
  • Ideally have a degree in Supply Chain Management, or similar.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills.
  • PC literate.
