Finance / Accounting Assistant

Location: South West London (Office based)

Salary: £28,000 - £31,000 per annum plus bonus (Depending on qualifications)

The Role

This role will require an individual who is hands-on, efficient, and ready and willing to learn new processes, offer suggestions on improvements, and help the business adapt to new challenges.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing innovative lighting company headquartered in Chicago, USA.

Key Elements and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation and review of period-end GL account reconciliations.
  • Preparation and processing of month-end journals, accruals, and other adjustments as required.
  • Processing trade creditor invoices and making vendor payments.
  • Sending customer invoices.
  • Monitor trade debtors and inquire about payment with customers.
  • Daily cash reconciliation.
  • Assisting with the completion of local annual audits and statutory reporting for UK entities using the support of external consultants where applicable.
  • Assisting with submission of VAT reports for European VAT registrations and related reports.
  • Assisting where required in the design, implementation and maintenance of financial SOP's.
  • Collaborating with inside sales and operations.
  • Maintaining vendor and customer master data.
  • Verifying the accuracy of business accounts and alerting the accountant of errors
  • Managing employee expense claims
  • Helping the Accountant with administrative duties and preparing yearly accounts

Skills and Qualifications

Required Knowledge:

  • Relevant financial experience, including general ledger accounting and reporting.
  • Experience in processing vendor invoices.
  • Experience with VAT, other taxes, and UK compliance.
  • Experience with accounting systems use e.g. Dynamics NAV/Netsuite or similar accounting systems.
  • Strong Excel experience essential with the ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of lookup functions, pivot tables and similar functions.
  • Experience in credit control and collection.

Skills & Abilities:

  • A strong communicator with the ability to communicate through the use of different means to a broad range of individuals at all levels.
  • A very organised individual with a high level of attention to detail with excellent timekeeping; required to meet internal and external deadlines to desired standard.
  • Comfort reporting to a leader in the USA and related time zone challenges.

Education & Experience:

  • A degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field can be beneficial.
  • Professional certifications like AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians)
  • 3 years of accounting experience
