We work with pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, and most of our pupils will also have some combination of additional complex needs, such as Anxiety, ASD, ADHD, FASD, PDA, OCD, ODD, Toxic Childhood Stress / Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), Attachment difficulties, Developmental Trauma or Delay, Speech and Language difficulties, Cognition and Learning difficulties, Specific Learning Difficulties such as Dyslexia and Dyspraxia; and more. Many of our young people will have displayed challenging behaviour at their previous schools.
We will help our pupils to succeed in spite of their very complex needs, and their difficulties at previous schools.
About You:
As a HLTA - You will provide essential support to students on a 1-1/2-1 basis offsite within the community i.e. at the Library or Cafe. You will be expected to collect the pupil from home or a specified location and will support them with managing their behaviour, providing English, Maths and BTEC qualification support in the mornings and accompany them in the afternoon to participate in their chosen activity.
We are seeking an individual who is inherently supportive, resilient and pro-active in managing behaviour and children with additional needs. You must be able to work on your own initiative and be adaptable. You will develop strategies so that students can work towards their goals with previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or HLTA.
Hours: Monday: 8.40am - 4.15pm, Tuesday - Thursday: 8.40am - 4.00pm and Fridays 8.40am - 3pm Term Time Only
Contract: Permanent subject to probation

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience working as a Teaching Assistant.

Experience working with children who have special needs.

A Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant degree is desirable.
Roles and Responsibilities:
-
To work 1:1 and 2:1 with key stage 4 students in the community under the instruction of senior staff, to support access to learning for pupils with SEMH, additional complex needs and challenging behaviour, and provide general pastoral and academic support to the students.

To deliver basic Maths and English Funtional Skills up to level 2, alongside a BTec Workskills Award qualification as well as potentially some other similar topics.

Support the students with work experience, life skills and their physical activities day to day creating a positive relationship.

To accompany and join in with your student’s chosen daily physical activity.

Support with behavior management, helping them to develop positive coping strategies, manage and regulate their behaviour and emotions.

Planning and leading targeted interventions to support your student in development areas.

Developing curricular knowledge as required by the school.

Undertaking observations of pupils and contributing to pupil records.
