Secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant - SEMH TA - Waltham Forest
Full Time | Term Time Only | January 2026
Up to 120 per day | Long Term Role (Temp to Perm)

Long Term Futures are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive mixed secondary school in Waltham Forest, providing targeted support to students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

This is a meaningful and hands-on role that involves working with students who require consistent emotional support, behaviour regulation strategies, and structured learning routines. The school has a strong inclusion team with excellent pastoral systems in place, offering clear pathways for professional development and progression into behaviour support, mentoring, or specialist SEMH roles.

The position begins in January 2026, with interviews taking place shortly - early applications are encouraged.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide structured 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Assist students in regulating emotions, managing behaviour triggers, and maintaining focus
  • Support learning across a range of secondary subjects
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCo, pastoral team, and class teachers
  • Promote positive relationships, resilience, and inclusion within the classroom
  • Contribute to behaviour support plans and review progress against SEMH targets


Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting students with SEMH, behaviour needs, or emotional regulation
  • A calm, patient, and positive approach to challenging situations
  • Confidence supporting pupils in a busy secondary school environment
  • Understanding of safeguarding, behaviour plans, and trauma-informed practice
  • Background in youth work, mentoring, SEN support, or behaviour intervention (desirable)


Location and Transport - Waltham Forest, East London

  • Accessible via Walthamstow Central, Leyton, Leytonstone, Chingford
