Female Waking Night Children’s Residential Care Support Worker

We're after a supportive and compassionate woman with the confidence to be assertive when needed. You'll be working waking nights in a therapeutic and secure home for young women who may at times present challenging behaviour and have complex emotional needs. This role calls for someone who can really connect with young people and provide a steady, reassuring presence throughout the night.

WORKING HOURS: 4 x 8.30 - 8.30 Night Shift and 1 Day Shift Alternating

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Female Waking Night Children’s Residential Care Support Worker who is compassionate, dedicated, and want to make a difference in the lives of the vulnerable young women in care. The role can be challenging at times, but massively rewarding, as young women flourish.

The organisation work with young women (gender-inclusive) between the ages of 8 - 18 with autism and complex emotional needs, who can present with challenging behaviours such as self-harming and suicidal ideation.

As the Female Waking Night Children’s Residential Care Support Worker you will support young women who have varied mental health challenges with complex trauma. Self-reflection and an awareness of the impact of secondary trauma are essential to this role.

Working as the Female Waking Night Children’s Residential Care Support Worker you will help the young women develop independent living skills such as shopping, budgeting, washing clothes, cooking, attending professional appointments, leisure activities, etc.

As a successful candidate it is essential that you have experience and knowledge in relational working with complex trauma, and you must have experience working as a mental health support worker with young people.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Female Waking Night Children’s Residential Care Support Worker include:

  • Remain awake at night
  • Provide advice and support to children and young people in the home in line with their placement plans
  • Act as a key worker to children and young people offering support to their individual needs and advocating for them at reviews and care planning meetings
  • Be a point of contact for children and young people with their social workers, education and health staff, and family
  • Establish a nurturing relationship with children and young people to help them deal with their past and present difficulties
  • Help children and young people build positive relationships
  • Help children and young people resolve conflicts and manage their behaviour safely and acceptably
  • Undertake housekeeping and cleaning duties in order to maintain a clean and safe environment

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be female
  • Minimum Level 3 Health and Social Care with Children or Practitioner Level 4 Children, young people and families or a willingness to work towards it and complete within 2 years of starting the course
  • Must have experience working with children and young people with EBD and Mental Health Challenges in a children’s home setting
  • Working with challenging children and young people
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Effective record-keeping skills and maintaining the confidentiality
