A welcoming and inclusive Secondary Special School in Southwark is seeking a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Support Assistant to join their team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people aged 11-19 with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities.



About the Role:

As a PMLD Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have complex physical and cognitive needs, providing essential educational and personal care support. Many students are non-verbal and require a high level of sensory input and communication support.

Key Duties:

  • Support students with severe and profound learning needs in class and 1:1

  • Assist with personal care including toileting, feeding, and medical routines (training provided)

  • Use specialist communication aids (e.g. PECS, Eye Gaze, Makaton)

  • Deliver sensory-based learning activities in line with EHCPs

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to promote progress and well-being



The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Previous experience working with students with PMLD or complex needs

  • Confidence in delivering personal care and moving & handling

  • Knowledge of sensory integration or multi-sensory approaches (desirable)

  • A caring, patient, and enthusiastic attitude

  • A valid Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
