Teaching & Learning Support Assistant (Maternity Cover – Until June 2026)
Hours:
 8:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday

About the Role:
We’re seeking a passionate and resilient Teaching & Learning Support Assistant (TLSA) to join a specialist independent setting supporting girls with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and Special Educational Needs (SEN).

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people who need care, patience and consistency to thrive. You’ll work closely with class teachers, SEN professionals and therapists to provide targeted academic, emotional and behavioural support.

The role is available as maternity cover until June 2026, with full training and professional development provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teaching and learning under the direction of the class teacher.
  • Assist in creating a positive, inclusive and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group interventions to help students reach their potential.
  • Support students in developing emotional regulation, communication and social skills.
  • Implement behaviour and learning strategies to promote engagement and self-confidence.
  • Support students with their EHCP targets and record progress effectively.
  • Provide pastoral support and act as a positive role model.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and parents/carers to support student progress.
  • Promote safeguarding, inclusion, and equality of opportunity at all times.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASD or other additional needs.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and experience applying de-escalation or positive handling strategies (training can be provided).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, able to build trust and rapport with students.
  • Adaptable, patient and resilient, with a calm approach in challenging situations.
  • Team player who can follow direction while also using initiative.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience:

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths – Grade C/4 or above.
  • NVQ Level 2–3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent experience).
  • Additional training in SEN support, behaviour management, or literacy/numeracy interventions.
