Start Date:ASAPRole Overview: Lambeth Council is seeking to appoint an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) who also possesses children’s social work experience. This is a unique and flexible opportunity to work as part of a dedicated team during out-of-hours shifts, responding to urgent and complex situations involving children and families.Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake AMHP duties in line with the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended)
  • Respond to emergency mental health assessments during allocated night shifts
  • Apply knowledge and experience in children’s safeguarding and family assessments
  • Liaise effectively with internal teams, police, health professionals, and emergency services
  • Accurately complete statutory documentation and ensure timely recording of all actions
Requirements:
  • Qualified and Approved AMHP (registration required)
  • Previous experience in children’s social work (including statutory work)
  • Ability to work independently and manage high-pressure situations
  • Willingness to work flexible night shifts as part of a rota
  • Enhanced DBS and right to work in the UK
Desirable:
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding protocols for children and young people
  • Previous experience in an out-of-hours or emergency duty setting
Working Conditions:
  • Shifts are night-based (6 PM – 6 AM)
  • Hybrid options are not available due to the nature of the role
  • Supportive team environment with access to relevant training where appropriate
