This role involves working directly with victims of serious violent and sexual crimes, ensuring they are supported and informed at key stages of the offender's sentence or hospital order.Location: LondonContract: OngoingWork hours: 37 hours per weekSalary: £26.85 per hour Umbrella, £20.39PAYE Vacancies: 6Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and appropriate information to victims and their families in line with the Victim Contact Scheme (VCS) and Victim Notification Scheme (VNS).
  • Liaise with victims to ensure they understand their rights and what to expect throughout the criminal justice process.
  • Contribute to the risk assessment and risk management planning for victims and their families.
  • Maintain regular contact with victims and professionals across both urban and rural areas, requiring travel.
  • Participate in multi-agency meetings to support victim safeguarding and represent their views.
  • Assist victims with preparing personal statements and supporting them through parole processes.
  • Maintain accurate records and use case management systems effectively.
  • Offer mentoring and training support to new VLOs and raise awareness of the VCS/VNS among partner agencies.
  • Provide cover within the victim liaison unit as required.

Skills

  • Prior experience working for the Probation Service or in a role supporting victims or vulnerable adults is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of the criminal justice system and the roles of the courts, prisons, probation, and parole.
  • Ability to communicate with empathy and manage sensitive or distressing situations effectively.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices for children and adults.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of an interagency team.
  • A current DBS is required (we can arrange this) along with HMPPS Enhanced Level 1 vetting.
