A new position for an experienced Controls Project Systems Engineer (PLC exp ) is urgently required for a leading engineering services company to join a strong well established team for upcoming projects. Clients work with in the energy / chemicals focusing on safetysolutions that satisfy the critical nature of customer plant site and processes. Additionally as controls project systems engineer are involved in consulting in the field of systems engineering and general system design and panel buildservices.

Mainly office based apart from when you go to clients’ sites (must be able to drive with car) with teamwork pivotal to the success of the company. Site visits wouldnormallybewithinthe UKbut onrareoccasionsmay requireworldwidetravel.

The role and responsibilities

  • Manage PLC based system design and consultancy projects from point of sale, through initial design and manufacture, to site commissioning.
  • Responsible for a wide range of engineering design and project management tasks, with importance placed heavily on reading and interpreting technical documents to include industry standards, client specifications, P&IDs, logic diagrams.
  • Confident user of general office software (e.g. Microsoft Word / Excel) for preparing various in-depth project related documentation. (e.g. Specifications / reports / calculations etc.).
  • Critically review, and mark-up documents / drawings generated by others, providing constructive feedback.
  • Supervision of workshop technicians is required during the system build of your own projects.
  • Rigorously testing - so an ability to apply problem solving and analytical techniques, to plan and carry out appropriate system tests is needed.
  • General control of project work, including look-ahead planning, control of project budgets and schedules, change control, estimating activities, project document management and progress reporting.
  • Review of client’s specifications and other national / international standards to ensure project compliance.
  • Development of functional requirements specifications for control systems, SIS, F&G and instrumentation.
  • PLC, HMI & SCADA application software development
  • Participation in design reviews, including HAZOP / LOPA, hazardous area, etc.
  • You must have an excellent standard of both spoken / written communication

Skills and Experiences

  • HNC/HND/ or Degreequalificationinarelevant engineeringdiscipline,
  • Several years’ experience PLC configuration and application software development.(e.g.ABBAC500-S/800xAHI,EmersonDeltaVSIS,Triconex,HIMA F60 / HiQuad X, Siemens S7-Failsafe, Allen Bradley ControlLogix / GuardLogix)
  • Customerfacing,greatcommunicationskillsfromatechnicaland commercial perspective essential.
  • HMI/SCADAconfiguration (e.g.SiemensWinCC/PCS7/Emerson DeltaV)
  • Industrialcommunications Systemarchitecturaldesignandselection/configurationofappropriate protocols (e.g., Profinet / Profibus / Modbus TCP & RTU / OPC etc.)
  • Theabilitytoconductsitesurveysandbrownfieldverificationofexistingcontrol systems and field instrumentation is required.
  • Experienceintheplanninganddeliveryoftechnicalprojectsisessential.

  • Understanding of Burner Management, Emergency Shutdown, Fire & GasDetection
  • Good working knowledge of the Functional Safety Standards BS EN 61508 /61511
  • CertifiedFSEngineer/Professionalstatuswelcomed
  • TUVFunctionalSafetycertificationwouldbepreferredbutnotessential
