This is a strategic, hands-on role where you'll shape backend architecture, mentor a high-performing team, and drive scalable, reliable systems that power our business.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead and mentor a talented backend engineering team, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.

  • Own and evolve our backend architecture using Java (Quarkus/GraalVM preferred, SpringBoot acceptable) to ensure scalability, reliability, and security.

  • Stay hands-on (20% of the role) with code reviews, solution design, and system architecture.

  • Oversee API design and integration with messaging platforms like Pub/Sub, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.

  • Define and track KPIs like system availability, latency, and error rates.

  • Collaborate with product, infrastructure, frontend, and data teams to deliver business outcomes.

  • Uphold high standards in software quality, testing, and maintainability.

Who You Are:

  • Proven experience building distributed systems and microservices.

  • A natural leader with a track record of mentoring and coaching engineering teams.

  • Deep expertise in REST API design, CI/CD practices, and Agile methodologies.

  • Direct experience in fintech, payments, or banking domains.

  • A pragmatic problem-solver who aligns technical work with long-term business goals.

  • Committed to working within our existing Java on GCP stack-no major rewrites or cloud migrations.

Who This Role Is Not For:
  • Those looking to rewrite the codebase in another language or move to AWS.

  • Candidates driven primarily by equity or valuation rather than purpose and delivery.
