Job Description:

A secondary school in Lewisham is looking for a committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their Personalised Learning Centre (PLC) unit. This is a dedicated provision within the school that supports students who struggle to engage in a mainstream setting due to SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, ADHD, ASD, or challenging behaviour.

This is a full-time, term-time role with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and small group support to students within the PLC unit

  • Help students manage behaviour and emotions in a calm, structured setting

  • Support students in their academic and personal development

  • Implement behaviour strategies and emotional regulation plans

  • Work collaboratively with the PLC lead, SENCo, and wider school staff

  • Encourage students to re-engage with learning and school routines

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD or complex needs

  • Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach

  • Ability to build trust and supportive relationships with vulnerable students

  • Willingness to assist with personal care if required (rare but may occur)

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
