Job Description:
A secondary school in Lewisham is looking for a committed and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join their Personalised Learning Centre (PLC) unit. This is a dedicated provision within the school that supports students who struggle to engage in a mainstream setting due to SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, ADHD, ASD, or challenging behaviour.
This is a full-time, term-time role with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individual and small group support to students within the PLC unit
Help students manage behaviour and emotions in a calm, structured setting
Support students in their academic and personal development
Implement behaviour strategies and emotional regulation plans
Work collaboratively with the PLC lead, SENCo, and wider school staff
Encourage students to re-engage with learning and school routines
Requirements:
Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD or complex needs
Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach
Ability to build trust and supportive relationships with vulnerable students
Willingness to assist with personal care if required (rare but may occur)
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
