We are currently recruiting for a Special Educational Needs Teacher to join a fantastic SEN college in Wandsworth that caters to post-16 students with a range of needs, the majority of whom have Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD). This specialist setting focuses on preparing learners aged 16-25 for adulthood, offering a highly individualised curriculum. The college provides a nurturing environment where learners are supported by a multidisciplinary team including therapists, support staff, and pastoral professionals.
Students often present with complex physical, sensory, and medical needs, and many are non-verbal. The college places a strong emphasis on communication, sensory engagement and life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver creative, engaging lessons tailored to the sensory and developmental needs of PMLD learners
- Plan and implement a curriculum that supports EHCP outcomes and promotes meaningful progress
- Collaborate closely with support staff and therapists to ensure a consistent, person-centred approach
- Monitor and assess progress using specialist frameworks and contribute to regular reviews
- Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom atmosphere where every learner is celebrated
The Ideal Candidate:
- Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent teaching qualification
- Has experience teaching learners with PMLD and complex medical/physical needs
- Is confident in delivering sensory-based learning and alternative communication strategies
- Has strong safeguarding knowledge and a proactive, reflective approach to professional development
