The SEN Teacher Position
I am seeking to appoint an engaging, enthusiastic and innovative SEN Teacher from September to join an expanding SEN school in Brent. This school provides a safe and nurturing environment for young adults from 16 to 25 years of age (Key Stage 5).
The role is for a class based SEN teacher to join their team from September on a permanent contract. The SEN teacher role will be to undertake the full class teaching responsibilities including full planning and assessment. You will have class of 4 or 5 students who have moderate learning difficulties and related needs who will be undertaking a life skills focused curriculum with the support of 2-3 full time experienced SEN TAs.
The successful SEN teacher will be given an exciting opportunity to work as a part of an expanding group of schools, where your energy and experience will be valued as a part of the school's aim to meet the varied needs of our students. The successful SEN teacher will enjoy a high degree of job satisfaction as they will be supported and developed by an SLT who ensure that they can focus on the opportunity to apply their skills to working with the students rather than being bogged down in admin.
SEN Teacher Responsibilities
- Plan and teach well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school's curriculum and schemes of work
- Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment
- Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils
- Set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
- Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
- Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
- Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for external tests
The School
The school's Brent site is offers a range of formal learning opportunities and life skills classes for Key stage 5 (ages 16-25) students with moderate learning needs. The curriculum is designed to allow students to become confident and valued members of their communities. Students are typically taught in groups of 4-5, with a qualified teacher supported by several experienced teaching assistants, depending on need. Formal lessons are aimed at developing reading, writing and mathematical skills with students able to sit exams to achieve formal qualifications where appropriate.
Students can access vocational courses that can lead to work experience opportunities in the local community or the chance for students to develop their skills into their own potential businesses. Individuals are supported to apply their skills and knowledge in the school's café and allotments. Many of their young people want to gain the skills and knowledge to be able to live independently in the future. Life-skills and independent living sessions are designed to allow students to become confident in a range of areas from cooking and nutrition to managing finances. Many of the formal, vocational and life-skills learning can gain accreditation through ASDAN or AQA Units of Work.

The ideal SEN teacher applicant will have QTS and good recent experience teaching post 16 pupils in a UK setting. You will be a key part in enabling pupils to fulfil their own unique potential by working alongside other professionals to deliver consistently excellent lessons and experiences. You will be teaching a broad and balanced curriculum and through this you will ensure that all children are able to meet their true potential.
