Are you an experienced healthcare professional with a background in police custody settings? Join the Metropolitan Police's dedicated Custody Healthcare Team and play a pivotal role in safeguarding the health and well-being of detainees.
Role Overview:
As a Custody Healthcare Practitioner, you'll be at the forefront of delivering comprehensive medical care within police custody suites. Your responsibilities will include:
- Clinical Assessments: Conduct thorough health evaluations of detainees, identifying any immediate medical needs or vulnerabilities.
- Mental Health Support: Manage and support individuals experiencing mental health crises, ensuring appropriate interventions are in place.
- Emergency Response: Provide prompt medical attention during emergencies, utilizing your expertise to stabilize and manage acute situations.
- Forensic Procedures: Collect and document forensic samples in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines.
- Collaborative Care: Work closely with custody officers, legal representatives, and external healthcare providers to ensure a holistic approach to detainee care.
- Professional Registration: Registered Nurse (Adult or Mental Health) or Paramedic with current NMC or HCPC registration.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience, with demonstrable experience working within a police custody environment.
- Clinical Competency: Proficient in venepuncture and capable of performing this skill from the first day of appointment.
- Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and often challenging environment, maintaining professionalism and composure.
The role operates on a rotating shift pattern: 2 days, 2 nights, followed by 4 days off. This ensures continuous coverage and allows for a balanced work-life schedule.
