Accessibility Consultanct / Design Accessibility Consultant / UX Accessibility
We've partnered with a global retailer looking for a Design Accessibility Specialist to join the team, advocating for accessible design and WCAG & AA standards.
Experience Required:
- A strong portfolio demonstrating a clear understanding and application of accessibility principles in digital products.
- Proven experience (X+ years) as a Design Accessibility Specialist, UX/UI Designer with a strong accessibility focus, or similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of WCAG 2.1 (AA conformance at a minimum, AAA desirable) and other relevant accessibility standards and regulations.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver; screen magnifiers; speech recognition software).
- Experience conducting accessibility audits using automated tools and manual testing techniques.
- Ability to translate technical accessibility requirements into clear, actionable design and development guidance.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and educate diverse stakeholders.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Champion and advocate for accessibility across all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial concept to launch and iteration.
- Provide expert guidance and consultation on accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1, ARIA) and best practices to design and development teams.
- Conduct accessibility audits and evaluations of existing and new designs, prototypes, and developed features, identifying areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with UX/UI designers to ensure designs are inherently accessible, considering visual, cognitive, motor, and auditory impairments.
- Work closely with front-end developers to implement accessible code and ensure proper use of semantic HTML, ARIA attributes, and keyboard navigation.
- Develop and deliver accessibility training and workshops to upskill internal teams.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of accessibility guidelines, design systems, and component libraries.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest accessibility guidelines, technologies, and assistive technologies.
