Senior UX/UI Designer
Location: Farringdon, London (with 2-3 workshops per month in Welwyn Garden City)
Contract: Fixed-Term Contract (FTC), Day Rate
Start: ASAP (with 2-3 weeks of screening)
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior UX/UI Designer to lead the redesign of a major internal colleague communications platform for a large, well-known UK retailer. This is a content-heavy platform that combines leadership updates, business campaigns, user-generated content, and discovery features such as feeds, topics, and recommended content.
This is a high-impact role where your design work will directly shape how tens of thousands of colleagues consume, contribute, and engage with business-critical information. You'll work day-to-day from a central London office, with regular workshops at a regional site, alongside a collaborative product and design team.
What You'll Work On
- Core redesign: Homepage, feeds/topic pages, article detail pages, and create-post flow.
- Content relevance & personalisation: Designing experiences that surface content tailored to colleagues' roles, locations, and interests.
- User-generated content confidence & motivation: Reducing friction in post creation, providing guidance/templates, and boosting confidence to share.
- Engagement mechanics: Enhancing reactions, comments, badges, and exploring gamification opportunities.
- Distribution & integration: Designing for API-driven content distribution into other colleague apps, creating multiple entry points to the platform.
What We're Looking For
We'd love to hear from you if you have experience in:
- Designing content-heavy or communications platforms (intranets, employee comms hubs, news/media, or social/UGC platforms).
- Information architecture: Structuring large amounts of content into clear, usable navigation, feeds, and discovery patterns.
- Personalisation & engagement design: Creating "For You," trending, or recommended content experiences.
- UGC creation flows: Designing intuitive post creation journeys, with templates or guidance to lower barriers.
- Mobile-first design: Strong experience in responsive, accessible design, with most colleagues accessing via mobile.
- Collaborating with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure designs are both visionary and practical.
What You'll Bring
To get this role, you'll need:
- A strong, well-curated portfolio demonstrating your expertise across web, responsive, and native design.
- 5+ years of UX/UI design experience, with a track record of content-heavy platform work.
- Background in social media, digital publishing, or communications platforms highly desirable.
- Expertise in Figma (or similar tools) for prototyping and design systems.
- A balance of strategic thinking and hands-on delivery, from user research and wireframes through to high-fidelity visuals.
- Strong communication skills: able to explain and influence design decisions with stakeholders at all levels.
- A passion for creating digital experiences that feel engaging, inclusive, and human.
Why Join Us
- Opportunity to lead the redesign of a core colleague platform used across a large, household-name UK organisation.
- Visibility and impact: your work will influence how colleagues engage with company culture and communications.
- A collaborative, innovative team environment.
- [Add benefits: e.g., flexible/hybrid working, bonus scheme, pension, wellbeing support, colleague discount, etc.]
