Senior Unreal Environment Artist
Permanent - Full Time
Virtual Production
London-based onsite role
A leading UK virtual production facility working across high-end television, film and branded content. The studio operates their own LED volume and also deliver high-end real-time environments for VP shoots that demand cinematic quality. They have a busy roster of projects for 2026 and are looking to hire a Senior Unreal Environment Artist to head up environment creation across their busy virtual production slate.
The Role
The Senior 3D Real-time Environment Artist leads real-time environment creation for virtual productions, ensuring worlds, layouts, and set dressing meet the visual standards expected in film and television.
As their Senior Unreal Environment Artist, you'll oversee environment build, asset preparation and optimisation for Unreal Engine, work directly with clients to interpret creative briefs, and support on-set during shoots when real-time troubleshooting is needed. You'll also shape workflows and mentor artists as the team grows.
What’s in it for you
- Ownership of the end to end environment creative process
- The opportunity to work on high-end film/TV shoots and to shape how environments are delivered on an LED volume stage
- A mix of build time and on-set problem solving, so you see your work on the wall, not just in-editor
- The opportunity to mentor and grow a team, with space to define standards and workflows as the department scales
As Senior Unreal Environment Artist, you’ll be responsible for:
- Designing, ceatiing and building, dressing and refining environments so they hold up at cinematic standards (lighting, composition, scale, materials)
- Leading creative direction across real-time environment content for virtual productions
- Working on-set during shoots, troubleshooting rendering, tracking, lighting and material issues under pressure
- Consulting with production clients on feasibility, translating creative vision into executable environment plans
- Developing workflows and processes that balance artistic control with production efficiency
- Mentoring artists and supporting knowledge-sharing across departments
You'll need:
- 3+ years creating real-time environments in virtual production, VFX or high-end games
- Proficiency with Unreal Engine experience, including environment assembly, asset import pipelines, LOD setup, material optimisation and real-time lighting
- Working proficiency in Maya, Houdini or Blender for asset preparation and build support
- Portfolio demonstrating cinematic lighting, composition and environment work with photoreal materials
- Ability to communicate technical constraints to non-technical clients and creative teams
- Comfortable making decisions under time pressure during live shoots
If you’re an experienced Senior Unreal Environment Artist who wants your work to be seen by millions of people all over the world, while working on exciting and varied projects, this is the kind of slate where your eye actually matters.
