About the Opportunity
A well-established environmental consultancy, known for its practical and responsible approach to development, is looking for a senior leader to head up its growing water environment division of 7 experienced individuals split across 3 UK offices. This is a rare opportunity to take on a director-level role that combines hands-on technical involvement with team leadership and strategic oversight.
The company works across the UK, supporting clients through the planning and development process with a focus on delivering environmentally sound, technically robust, and commercially viable solutions.
Your Role
As Director of Water Environment, you'll be responsible for the operational and strategic direction of a multidisciplinary team working across flood risk, surface water drainage, and peatland hydrology.
You'll oversee client delivery, internal operations, and business development-ensuring technical quality, commercial success, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading a team of specialists across water-related disciplines, providing both technical input and managerial oversight
- Supporting company-wide strategy in collaboration with other directors and senior leadership
- Managing project delivery, client relationships, financial reporting, and team resourcing
- Driving quality assurance, innovation, and professional development within the team
- Developing new business opportunities and representing the company externally
- Maintaining a hands-on role in complex or high-value projects where your expertise is most valuable
- Fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
About You
- 10+ years' experience in environmental consultancy, ideally with technical grounding in one or more of: flood risk, drainage design, or peatland restoration
- Chartered membership of a relevant institution (e.g., CIWEM, ICE, IEMA)
- A strong understanding of relevant UK legislation, guidance, and policy
- Demonstrated success in client-facing roles, business development, and team management
- Experience working on major planning applications, DCOs, or nationally significant infrastructure projects
- Clear, confident communicator with a collaborative leadership style
What's on Offer
- Salary between £55,000 and £65,000, depending on experience
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays (with additional days increasing with length of service)
