Within the Employee Affairs Unit, and specifically in relation to the delivery of the Silver Book project, we have identified the role of a Technical Author who will be providing editorial support in terms of language, grammar, syntax, and style.
The role will be instrumental in ensuring Silver Book contents provide seamless guidance to the users of the Silver Book. As part of the Silver Book project team, the Technical Author will report to the project lead and EAU Operations Manager. The role requires supporting the EAU Operations Manager and the project Production Coordinator, as well as actively forging close liaison with all project teams who will be assembling contents, as required.
The role will provide style guidance, advise on language, grammar, and syntax, and edit Silver Book contents by working closely with the project teams compiling content, via a series of sprints to address specific themes/chapters. From a project perspective, the role will support the EAU Operations Manager and the Production Coordinator coach by highlighting any required changes to the project timeline, highlight potential risks, issues, and opportunities, to ensure the project team proactively addresses these at right level and with a collaborative mindset.
Contextual Information
The focus of the role will be to assist in delivering the SZC Silver Book contents, as well as recommendations for implementation, if pertinent to the integrity of the contents. The role would also involve supporting the sprints delivered by the agile project teams of subject matter experts across various experiential backgrounds, internal as well as external to the SZC project.

- External Stakeholders such as Trade Union Representatives
- SZC Silver Book Project teams
- Silver Book Project Lead
- Silver Book Production Coordinator
Dimensions
- This role is for x1 Technical Author
- The post holder will be based at Sizewell C locations but will be required to travel to other company locations in the UK as required.
- This post holder will not have line management responsibility and will be required to coach project team members in process improvement techniques such as Agile as required.
- This post is not permanent and will be active only for the duration of the Silver Book Implementation project.
Principal Accountabilities (Outputs of the Job - Activities & Decisions)
The post holder will be responsible for:
- Assisting the EAU Operations Manager in the delivery of the SZC Silver Book contents
- Devising a system for sharing best practices and lessons learnt among content teams to allow for continuous improvement.
- Alerting the Production Coordinator of any project risks, issues, and opportunities
- Providing a style guide and other relevant guidance in written form or verbal instruction
- Supporting Head of EAU and other project sponsors with delivery of Silver Book contents
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Educated to professional standard and membership of an appropriate body and to degree level or equivalent.
- Pro-active and able to thrive in a fast-past and dynamic environment.
- Comfortable with challenging assumptions and processes in order to constantly improve project outcomes
- Facilitation Skills
- Certification in Technical Writing or equivalent (e.g. certifications in Business Writing, Technical Writing, Certified Professional Technical Communicator, etc)
Desirable
- Demonstrable use of verbal communication skills within a business environment
- Experienced in working within a Major Programme environment preferred.
- Experience of providing editorial support in HR environments.
