Sawmill Team Leader
Lopen, near South Petherton, Somerset, 7:00am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday
Permanent, up to£33,250 per annum (depending on experience)
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Sawmill Team Leader to join our well-established timber sawmill located in Somerset. As a Sawmill Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating the daily flow of materials and supporting efficient production. Our company specialises in producing high-quality oak products, including structural beams, joinery planks, cladding, decking, and interior flooring.
The Role
As a Sawmill Team Leader, your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the supply of timber from stock to sawmill operations
- Ensuring sawyers receive the correct materials to meet production schedules
- Supervising and supporting sawmill and stock-handling staff
- Making informed decisions on timber selection and usage
- Operating forklifts to move timber (training provided if required)
- Monitoring stock levels and reporting to management
- Supporting picking and packing operations when needed
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience in the timber industry, preferably with oak
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Excellent understanding of timber grades and cutting requirements
- Confident decision-making and problem-solving abilities
- Forklift experience or willingness to be trained
- Focus on quality, efficiency, and safety
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a sawmill or timber yard
- Knowledge of sawmill machinery and processes
