Reed Finance are pleased to be supporting our client, a growing business in the construction sector, who are expanding their finance function and seeking a Financial Controller to oversee the finance function. Day-to-day of the role:
- Manage and assist a small team in processing invoices, purchase orders, delivery notes, and personnel expenses quickly and accurately.
- Ensure effective operation of procurement and purchase ledger functions, liaising with suppliers to resolve disputes and assist with account reconciliations.
- Submit monthly VAT returns and perform monthly reconciliations to the general ledgers.
- Negotiate and manage credit accounts with external suppliers and subcontractors.
- Assist with the submission of sub-contractor invoices, verify CIS status, and oversee sub-contractor agreements.
- Support the Head of Finance with month-end tasks, reporting, and ensuring data integrity.
- Develop and standardise weekly & monthly management reporting.
- Build strong relationships with Contracts and Operations Managers.
- Assist the senior finance team during the year-end process and liaise with external auditors for the annual audit.
- Provide support for various ad-hoc activities and general business tasks such as company insurances and Companies House submissions.
- Produce monthly management accounts with budget variations and oversee the production of monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations, including intercompany balances and maintaining the Fixed Asset Register.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA). Qualified by experience will also be considered.
- Previous experience in an accounts function, preferably within the construction sector.
- Good technical understanding of general accounting processes.
- Proficiency in preparing management accounts including journal processing and nominal account reconciliations.
- Experience with Sage 50 accounting software.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (V-lookups, pivot tables, large data manipulation).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
