My client is a dynamic mechanical and electrical contractor that is going through significant growth with projects in the London area and they are looking to expand within their accounts department, they are seeking a senior management accountant to supervise a small team, this is the ideal role for someone to take ownership and learn, progress within their career in a fast-paced environment.
Day-to-day of the role:- Manage and assist a small team ensuring all invoices, purchase orders, delivery notes, and personnel expenses are processed accurately and promptly.
- Oversee the procurement and purchase ledger functions, liaising with suppliers to resolve disputes and assist with account reconciliations.
- Submit monthly VAT returns and perform monthly reconciliations to the general ledgers.
- Negotiate and manage credit accounts with external suppliers and subcontractors.
- Assist with the submission of subcontractor invoices, verify CIS status, and oversee subcontractor agreements.
- Support the Head of Accounts with month-end tasks, ensuring reporting and data integrity.
- Develop and standardize weekly and monthly management reporting processes.
- Build strong relationships with Contracts and Operations Managers.
- Assist the senior finance team during the year-end process and liaise with external auditors for the annual audit.
- Provide support for various ad-hoc activities, including company insurances and Companies House submissions.
- Produce monthly management accounts with budget variations and oversee the production of monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations, including intercompany balances and maintaining the Fixed Asset Register.
- Proven experience in an Accounts function with a solid technical understanding of general accounting processes.
- Knowledge of accounting in the construction sector.
- Skilled in preparing management accounts including journal processing, nominal account reconciliations, and error correction.
- Experience with Sage 50 accounting software.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (V-lookups, pivot tables, large data manipulation).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
