Astute's Power Team are supporting an International Power Generation company who have a number of Gas Fired Power Stations across the UK.

Their Spalding Power Station comprises of a recently upgraded Combined Cycle Gas Turbine plant, capable of producing up to 950MW plus an Open Cycle Gas Turbine plant with a capacity of 300MW.

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for managing both maintenance and engineering activities associated with all electrical equipment ranging from transformers, switch gear, High Voltage / Low Voltage equipment. In addition you will be the primary Engineer for all Electrical projects including plant upgrades and outages.

Responsibilities and duties of the Maintenance Planner role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Develop and implement robust electrical maintenance policies and procedures to ensure operational excellence.
  • Take the lead on all plant-related electrical engineering and maintenance activities.
  • Carry out maintenance, servicing, and repairs on all plant electrical equipment, with a strong focus on critical assets. Maintain accurate records and equipment history.
  • Evaluate, order, and manage electrical spare parts to maximize plant uptime and reliability.
  • Offer technical guidance and hands-on support to the maintenance team, contributing to team development and plant-wide operational goals.
  • Plan and execute maintenance outages, manage electrical engineering projects, and coordinate internal resources and external contractors.
  • Procure, oversee, and ensure the quality of outsourced electrical maintenance services and engineering contracts.
  • Adhere to and enforce management of change processes, and maintain up-to-date documentation including procedures, work instructions, and risk assessments.
  • Manage electrical maintenance budgets and provide input into future planning and capital forecasting.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of plant electrical equipment, identifying and mitigating reliability risks.
  • Monitor the health of critical electrical assets using tools such as dissolved gas analysis (DGA), online partial discharge (PD), and temperature monitoring systems.


Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A relevant engineering qualification at ideally HNC level or higher. Qualifications below this level will be considered coupled with extensive relevant industry experience.
  • Apprenticeship trained
  • Holder of IOSH or NEBOSH
  • Ideally qualified as a Senior Authorised Person


Personal skills
The Electrical Engineer role would suit someone who has:

  • Extensive technical expertise relating the maintenance & engineering of Electrical equipment including Transformers, Switchgear, Motors, Drives etc
  • At least 5 years of experience gained in a heavy process industry ideally power generation but candidates from refineries, steel works or the marine industry will be considered
  • Marine Engineers such as Merchant/RFA/Royal Navy would be ideal
  • Proven leadership experience as you would be leading teams of engineers, technicians, etc
  • Planning, management and delivery of outages
