Applications Engineer – Mill-Turn Specialist

Location: UK & Ireland (Extensive Travel & Regular Overnight Stays Required)

The Opportunity

A leading CNC machine tool company is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer with a strong background in mill-turn machining. This is a customer-facing role requiring extensive travel across the UK and Ireland, including regular overnight stays.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering technical support, training, and turnkey solutions both at customer sites and in-house. From pre-sales activities such as time studies and demonstrations to post-sales support and process optimisation, this role is key to ensuring customers maximise their investment in advanced CNC technology.

Key Responsibilities

Mill-Turn Expertise

  • Lead the setup, optimisation, and training of mill-turn CNC machines at customer sites.
  • Develop and refine machining processes for complex, multi-axis components.

Customer & Dealer Support

  • Provide on-site technical assistance and training across the UK & Ireland.
  • Build strong working relationships with machine operators, engineers, and dealers.

Programming & Process Development

  • Create and optimise CNC programs to improve productivity and reduce cycle times.
  • Support turnkey projects with detailed time studies and manufacturing solutions.

Machine Demonstrations & Sales Support

  • Assist the sales team by showcasing machine capabilities during live demonstrations.
  • Provide accurate cycle time estimates to help inform purchasing decisions.

Installations & Technical Support

  • Oversee machine installations and ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
  • Deliver ongoing remote and on-site technical support.

Training & Events

  • Stay current on the latest models and developments.
  • Deliver internal and external training and support exhibitions, trade shows, and dealer events.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Prior experience in an Applications Engineering or CNC programming role, ideally involving mill-turn machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of metal cutting, tooling, and modern machining methods.
  • Capable of working independently, managing a mobile role with frequent travel and overnight stays.
  • Confident communicator, able to represent the company professionally in customer-facing situations.

Development & Expectations

  • Full product training will be provided, with an expectation of becoming self-sufficient within 6–12 months.
  • Regular reviews and development support will be provided.
  • High standards of technical ability and professionalism must be maintained at all times.
