Interim Head of Finance – Multi-Academy Trust

A well-established Multi-Academy Trust is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Finance to provide strategic and operational financial leadership across its schools. This is a key role supporting the CFO in delivering robust financial management, compliance, and insight to drive the Trust’s educational and strategic goals.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting across 12 schools
  • Oversee payroll, statutory reporting, and internal/external audits
  • Ensure compliance with the Academy Trust Handbook, HMRC, and public sector finance regulations
  • Deliver accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports
  • Manage cash flow, risk, and value-for-money initiatives
  • Support and develop a small finance team
  • Advise senior leaders and the Trust Board on financial strategy and performance

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in a senior finance role within a Multi-Academy Trust (essential)
  • Strong understanding of public sector finance, compliance, and audit processes
  • Skilled in financial planning, reporting, and risk management
  • Confident communicator with experience advising senior stakeholders and Boards
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment
