Interim Head of Finance – Multi-Academy Trust

A well-established Multi-Academy Trust is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Finance to provide strategic and operational financial leadership across its schools. This is a key role supporting the CFO in delivering robust financial management, compliance, and insight to drive the Trust’s educational and strategic goals.
What you’ll do:
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting across 12 schools
- Oversee payroll, statutory reporting, and internal/external audits
- Ensure compliance with the Academy Trust Handbook, HMRC, and public sector finance regulations
- Deliver accurate monthly management accounts and financial reports
- Manage cash flow, risk, and value-for-money initiatives
- Support and develop a small finance team
- Advise senior leaders and the Trust Board on financial strategy and performance
What we’re looking for:
- Proven experience in a senior finance role within a Multi-Academy Trust (essential)
- Strong understanding of public sector finance, compliance, and audit processes
- Skilled in financial planning, reporting, and risk management
- Confident communicator with experience advising senior stakeholders and Boards
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment
