Are you passionate about mental health and wellbeing? Do you want to support children who have experienced trauma and emotional distress? If you're looking to build a career in mental health, education, or therapeutic support, this could be the ideal role for you.

A specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Maidenhead is seeking a Trauma Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. This is a full-time role where you'll work closely with children and young people facing significant mental health challenges, including anxiety, attachment difficulties, and trauma-related behaviours.

As a Trauma Support Assistant, you'll provide both emotional and academic support to students who require a nurturing and consistent presence in their school day. You'll play a vital role in promoting positive mental health, self-esteem, and emotional resilience.

What you'll be doing as a Trauma Support Assistant:

Supporting students 1:1 or in small groups with emotional regulation and behaviour
Implementing trauma-informed and mental health support strategies
Building trust-based relationships that promote safety and stability
Creating a calm, structured environment that supports mental and emotional wellbeing

This Trauma Support Assistant role is ideal for aspiring psychologists, therapists, counsellors, or anyone pursuing a career focused on child and adolescent mental health. You'll gain first-hand experience in supporting pupils with SEMH needs in an educational setting.

The ideal candidate:

Has a strong interest in mental health, trauma recovery, and youth development
Brings empathy, patience, and resilience to every interaction
May have experience in education, youth work, care, or mental health (not essential)

By becoming a Trauma Support Assistant, you'll be joining a supportive school community that places mental health at the centre of its approach. You'll be trained in de-escalation and trauma-informed practice, and supported by experienced staff, therapists, and SEN professionals.
