We are seeking a hardworking hands-on Assistant Underwriter who is looking for an exciting new opportunity! This role is working within our Haven Knox-Johnston team who are a part of the Howden Group. This role will see you will analyse insurance proposals, evaluate risk, and adhere to company guidelines. Respond to new inquiries and build relationships with brokers, clients, and collaborators.

What you will be doing:

  • Ensure contract certainty is achieved on all accounts at time of inception.
  • Proactively support acquisition of new business.
  • Positively represent Haven Knox-Johnston and partners externally to the market.
  • Following the underwriting and pricing knowledge and mentorship from the Senior Underwriter to ensure that the company's underwriting performance commitments are met.
  • Champion positive connections with brokers and other customers through excellent customer service.
  • Assist with the day-to-day running of the underwriting department and ensure all risks are written in line with delegated authority agreements.
  • Undertake any required training to ensure the role can continue to be effectively carried out.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, regulations, and effective techniques to continually support the improvement of underwriting processes.

What you will need:

  • CII Certified would be helpful - or willingness to work towards the certification.
  • A proven track record in insurance or a minimum of 1 years' experience in Underwriting (preferable). Marine experience advantageous.
  • Strong communication and people skills to effectively work and collaborate with individuals both inside and outside the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to proactively identify and address potential risks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines.
