Astute's Power Team are working with a leading Waste Management company in the UK and are recruiting for an Outage Planner to join the Engineering Team of a large Energy from Waste plant.

As Outage Planner you will be responsible for the planning and execution of all preventative and reactive work relating to outages across all three lines at the facility. You will be working closely with the Maintenance Planner, Engineering Manager and Maintenance Manager to ensure all required work is scheduled in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities and duties of the Outage Planner role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Play a pivotal role in planning, executing, and completing scheduled outages across all three production lines, including the steam turbine/generator and shared plant systems.
  • Design and implement workflow processes to optimize the use of site resources.
  • Develop comprehensive documentation to support effective project management.
  • Lead the advancement and integration of the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Manage and actively contribute to team objectives and collaborative efforts.
  • Uphold and promote strict safety standards for all site activities.
  • Ensure all visitors and subcontractors receive proper induction on site safety and emergency protocols.
  • Maintain and continuously improve site housekeeping standards.
  • Prepare and submit financial applications to secure necessary project funding.
  • Coordinate the timely procurement of stock and non-stock materials to support operational requirements.


Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A relevant engineering qualification at ideally level 3 or higher. Qualifications below this level will be considered coupled with extensive relevant industry experience.
  • Apprenticeship trained
  • Holder of IOSH or NEBOSH


Personal skills
The Outage Planner role would suit someone who has:

  • At least 5 years of experience gained in a heavy process industry ideally power generation but candidates from refineries, steel works or the marine industry will be considered
  • Experience in planning and coordinating large outages and shutdowns
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project and ideally Q4 CMMS
  • Experience of root cause analysis and similar fault finding techniques
