Logistics & Transport Planner – £40,000 – Chelmsford

Are you an experienced logistics professional with a background in production manufacturing?

We're hiring a Logistics and Transport Planner for a globally successful manufacturing company near Chelmsford. If your transportation planning experience has been centred around production planning challenges and coordinating transportation activities, including booking transport with customers, liaising with third-party carriers, and tracking international shipments.  Experience within a production or manufacturing environment is essential for this role.  In this critical position, you'll ensure goods' smooth and efficient movement across global supply chains — particularly in the USA.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working hand in hand with the Production Team to synchronise transport logistics with production output and demand requirements.
  • Manage inbound logistics to warehouses, ensuring schedule accuracy and stock availability.
  • Coordinate and book transport, ensuring clear communication with customers and internal teams.
  • Liaise with third-party carriers and logistics providers to manage timely shipments.
  • Track international deliveries, proactively resolving any transit issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and logistics records.
  • Analyse transport data to identify operational efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across production, supply chain, and customer service teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the logistics and supply chain function.

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Previous experience in a logistics/supply chain role within a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of international freight operations and transport planning.
  • Confident Excel user (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis).
  • Highly organised with exceptional problem-solving and multitasking abilities.
  • Effective communicator with experience managing external logistics partners.
  • Familiarity with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) and logistics project coordination.
  • Experience in FMCG or consumer goods is a strong advantage.
