Reed Accountancy are delighted to be working with a reputable client with over 125 years of history, situated in the heart of Malton, North Yorkshire. This client are looking to recruit a Payroll & Accounts Assistant, on a full-time, 6-9 month fixed-term contract basis, to cover maternity leave. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and processing monthly salaries and payrolls accurately and timely. This role also supports the Finance Manager and the finance team in delivering monthly accounts.Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Processing:

  • Maintain payroll systems and records by gathering, calculating, and inputting data monthly.
  • Calculate employee take-home pay based on time records, benefits, and taxes using company software.
  • Collaborate with the HR department to ensure employee data is current.
  • Adhere to payroll policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in timesheet and payroll records.
  • Address employee queries regarding wages, deductions, attendance, and time records.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all employee personal and payroll information.
  • Stay updated on current legislation (e.g., SSP, SMP, SPP).
  • Create monthly payroll reports and analyses, and post journals to the general ledger.
  • Make monthly payments to HMRC for PAYE and other organisations for attachment of earnings.

Finance Team Support:

  • Assist in preparing monthly margin and sales reports for various revenue streams.
  • Conduct regular validity checks of the nominal ledger data.
  • Ensure timely closure of sales, purchase, and nominal ledgers.
  • Update and monitor fuel prices.
  • Manage vehicle maintenance, including purchase, maintenance, sale, and insurance claims.
  • Produce and analyse aged debt reports.
  • Administer the closing of sales, purchase, and nominal ledgers within specified timescales.
  • Perform daily bank updates of invoices/sales.
  • Provide ad-hoc reports for management using Excel spreadsheets.
  • Offer administrative support to the Finance Manager.
