MAINTENANCE ENGINEER 

Hours (Monday - Friday: 8am - 17.00pm - will require some on call shifts)

Day to Day Duties:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on plant equipment, conveyors, shredders, compactors, balers, and sorting machinery using the CMMS to log and track activities.
  • Diagnose faults quickly and implement effective solutions to minimise downtime, ensuring compliance with site performance targets.
  • Conduct inspections and testing in line with statutory and manufacturer requirements, recording all work in accordance with company procedures and CMMS records.
  • Prepare and follow Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for all maintenance tasks, ensuring they are reviewed and signed off before commencement.
  • Work within the Permit-to-Work system for high-risk activities such as confined space entry, hot works, and electrical isolation, ensuring all permits are obtained and adhered to.
  • Uphold IOSH safety principles by proactively identifying hazards, reporting near misses, and promoting a safe working culture across the site.
  • Liaise with operations staff to plan and schedule maintenance without disrupting production, ensuring effective communication during handovers.
  • Support continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Assist with spare parts management, ensuring critical spares are available to minimise downtime.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards in workshops and plant areas, ensuring tools and equipment are stored correctly.

Essential Skills:

  • Mechanically minded 
  • Proven experience as an Industrial Maintenance Engineer, ideally within waste management, recycling, or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Competence in using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for scheduling, recording, and tracking work orders.
  • Ability to prepare and work to Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Understanding and application of IOSH safety principles.
  • Experience working under a Permit-to-Work system, including confined space, hot works, and electrical isolation permits.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills under time pressure.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in waste recycling, aggregates, quarrying, or other heavy process industries.
  • Knowledge of PLC fault-finding and basic programming.
  • Forklift truck license
  • Experience with continuous improvement techniques such as Lean or Six Sigma.
