Our client is a respected fit-out and refurbishment contractor with a strong presence across the UK. They specialise in delivering high-quality CAT A and CAT B commercial interiors, workplace refurbishments, student accommodation, and hospitality projects. With a reputation for innovation, collaboration, and excellence, they are now looking to expand their pre-construction team in Manchester to support their continued growth.

Your new role
Our client is seeking an Assistant Estimator to join their Manchester office. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is early in their estimating career and looking to develop their skills within a supportive, forward-thinking business. You will work closely with senior estimators and pre-construction professionals, assisting with tenders, cost planning, and developing accurate quotations for CAT A and CAT B fit-out projects.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the preparation of cost estimates and tender submissions for CAT A and CAT B fit-out projects.

  • Supporting the analysis of drawings, specifications, and project documents.

  • Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing information.

  • Helping to produce bills of quantities and cost breakdowns.

  • Supporting the pre-construction team in bid preparation and tender returns.

  • Learning and applying value engineering principles to provide cost-effective solutions.

  • Developing knowledge of market rates, construction methods, and material costs.

  • Providing general administrative and technical support to senior estimators.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Previous experience in a construction, estimating, or commercial role (work placement, trainee, or junior level considered).

  • Ideally some exposure to CAT A and CAT B fit-out or refurbishment projects, though not essential.

  • Good numerical, analytical, and IT skills (Excel knowledge is essential).

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Willingness to learn, attention to detail, and a proactive approach.

  • A genuine interest in progressing your career within estimating and commercial management.
