Drainage Design Engineer - Manchester | Full-Time or Part-Time | Permanent


I'm working with a highly regarded multi-disciplinary consultancy that's currently looking to appoint a Drainage Design Engineer to join their growing Water Services team in Manchester. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of planning and infrastructure projects across the public and private sectors.
The position is offered on a flexible basis - either full-time or part-time - and comes with a competitive salary and strong opportunities for professional development.



The Role:


As a Drainage Engineer, you'll be involved from project conception through to delivery. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing drainage strategies and supporting planning documentation
  • Designing surface and foul water systems, including sustainable drainage (SuDS)
  • Creating detailed technical drawings, plans, and specifications using AutoCAD
  • Assisting with flood risk and drainage projects for both new and existing developments
  • Collaborating with clients and internal teams across multiple disciplines
  • Mentoring junior staff and supporting their professional growth


What They're Looking For:

  • A relevant degree (e.g., Civil Engineering, Environmental Science) or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years' experience in drainage design, from concept to detailed stage
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Solid understanding of SuDS and flood risk assessment principles
  • Knowledge of relevant planning policies, industry standards, and regulatory processes
  • Strong communication and teamworking skills
  • Familiarity with pumping station design is advantageous


Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of Section 104, 106, and 278 design processes
  • GIS experience (preferably QGIS)
  • Project management experience
  • Working towards or holding membership with a relevant professional body
