Principal Pipeline Engineer
Location: Manchester, UK (Hybrid working available)
Overview:
We’re currently seeking a highly experienced Principal Pipeline Engineer to join a growing engineering team based in Manchester. You will lead the pipeline engineering function on key energy transition projects across carbon capture and hydrogen infrastructure. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and wants to shape future-facing pipeline design across FEED, detailed engineering, construction, and commissioning stages.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the delivery of onshore pipeline engineering activities from concept through to commissioning.

Take technical responsibility for pipeline designs, ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, and constructability.

Collaborate with multidiscipline teams and project stakeholders to align engineering outputs.

Prepare technical documents, specifications, and project deliverables in line with scope, budget, and timelines.

Manage workload estimates, progress tracking, and resourcing to achieve project goals (CPI/SPI monitoring).

Ensure all pipeline engineering work adheres to internal quality procedures and client requirements.

Provide mentoring, support, and performance feedback to engineers within the pipeline discipline.

Participate in peer reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices.
Qualifications and Experience:

Degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent in Engineering.

Chartered Engineer or minimum 10 years’ experience in pipeline engineering.

Proven track record leading onshore/offshore pipeline FEED and detailed design projects.

Sound knowledge of pipeline design codes, industry standards, and engineering best practices.

Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

Ability to influence cross-functional teams and deliver quality outcomes under pressure.
