We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer on a freelance basis to support a range of highways infrastructure projects, with a strong emphasis on bridge design, assessment, and refurbishment. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a leading contractor delivering high-profile infrastructure projects across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:-
Lead structural analysis and design of highways structures, particularly bridges.

Conduct detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using LUSAS software.

Produce technical reports, drawings, and specifications in accordance with DMRB, Eurocodes, and relevant British Standards.

Perform structural assessments of existing bridges and develop innovative strengthening and refurbishment solutions.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical, highway, and environmental specialists.

Support junior engineers through technical mentoring and quality assurance.

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (or nearing chartership) with IStructE or ICE preferred.

Extensive experience in the design and assessment of bridges and highways structures.

Proficient in LUSAS and skilled in finite element modelling and interpretation of results.

Strong understanding of UK highways standards and practices (e.g., DMRB, CS 454, CS 459).

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Excellent technical writing and communication skills.

Familiarity with other software packages (e.g., MIDAS Civil, SAP2000).

Temporary works design experience.
