Interim Continuous Improvement Manager

Location: Greater ManchesterLength: 6 MonthsSalary: £300 - £400 per day

A growing and dynamic engineering business is looking for a hands-on Continuous Improvement Manager to drive operational excellence across the shop floor. This is a rare opportunity to make a real impact in a close-knit team where your ideas will be heard and implemented.

About the Role

You will play a key role in enhancing efficiency, reducing waste, and improving safety practices across the operation. Working closely with production teams and senior leadership, you'll lead improvement initiatives and embed a culture of continuous improvement using Lean methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and streamline shop floor processes to eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Lead waste reduction and resource optimization using Lean tools.
  • Support and improve health & safety practices in partnership with safety teams.
  • Implement and sustain 5S workplace organization.
  • Plan and execute continuous improvement projects and Kaizen events.
  • Monitor performance using KPIs and data-driven insights.
  • Engage and train staff to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure changes align with compliance and quality standards.
  • Collaborate closely with leadership to align projects with strategic goals.

About You

  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (5S, Kaizen, waste reduction).
  • Hands-on experience improving health and safety in manufacturing/fabrication.
  • Skilled in managing small-scale improvement projects.
  • Confident communicator with influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Analytical and practical problem solver with data proficiency.
  • Experience delivering training or facilitating improvement workshops.

Desirable:

  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with metal fabrication and related shop floor environments.
  • Previous experience in small or family-run businesses.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and shop floor systems (ERP/MRP).

Remuneration: £300 - £400 per day
