Responsibilities for the role of Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant include:
- Proactively seeking to win new projects for the company, contributing extensively to business development
- Managing a team of professionals within the field
- Conducting Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) and designing Drainage Strategies, including Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), in support of planning applications
- Completing Hydrological and Flood Risk Chapters of Environmental Impact Assessments, Nutrient Neutrality, and ESG factors
- Undertaking site visits, writing comprehensive reports, and analysing data
- Using the appropriate software packages (including MicroDrainage, Causeway Flow, etc.) to inform and produce designs and other technical documents
- Working with AutoCAD to develop conceptual drainage systems
- Producing flood risk maps within QGIS (or similar)
- Liaising with clients and other stakeholders, establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them
Required skills and experience for the role of Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant include:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent/higher qualification) in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Geography, or similar
- Considerable experience of having won projects, contributing to business development
- Demonstrable experience of working in a flood risk and drainage role, within a UK consultancy setting
- Extensive experience of authoring Flood Risk Assessments and producing Drainage Strategies
- Experience in managing people and projects
- Proficient in the use of MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, Causeway Flow, TUFLOW, and similar software systems
- Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and GIS software systems
- Excellent understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Outstanding communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
- Experience of managing relations with clients and other stakeholders
- Dedication to your own Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Hold a full, valid UK Driving Licence
Desirable skills and experience for the role of Principal Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant include:
- Good understanding of relevant planning policy, procedures, and regulatory processes within the industry
- Prior experience of producing technical reports for flood modelling studies
- Good knowledge of hydraulic modelling for rivers, surface water, and/or sewer drainage
- Actively working to attain Chartered Status
