Business Analyst

Manchester/Hybrid (2 days per week on site/Some weeks fully remote)

A Business Analyst is required for our public sector client who are based in Manchester.

The successful candidate will join the Information Systems Projects and Training team, where you'll be supporting the ongoing delivery of technology-driven change, through the investigation, specification, and design of high-quality systems, processes and services. You will also be supporting delivery across the whole project lifecycle. Working alongside other IS functions and with the wider organisation, you will help deliver new and/or changed IT systems and services. You may be asked to work on feasibility studies, options analyses, proposed solutions, gap analyses and risk identification, or other project scoping/defining activities, as well as working closely with Project Managers and other colleagues across the full lifecycle of change projects, from developing the Business Case and gathering requirements, through to testing, business acceptance and benefits realisation.

Main responsibilities

  • Facilitating interviews and workshops with stakeholders to elicit business needs and system requirements.
  • Documenting 'As is' and 'To be' business processes and system flows.
  • Translating business requirements into system (software, platform), process and service requirements.
  • Effectively managing business stakeholder expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Working as the project-lead on the 'scope and define' phase of large projects.
  • Providing support and input to the overall definition of the system and UAT test scripts.
  • Provide implementation support as and when required, including 'cutover' planning, execution and end-user training.

Essential criteria

  • You'll need to demonstrate strong experience including on medium and large-scale (1m+) projects that involve 3rd parties and technical resources.
  • You'll need to have experience leading on complex and thorough analysis of system/operational issues before.
  • You'll need to be proficient in using structured BA methodologies and techniques, including business process modelling, to capture and document requirements, including the "as-is" and "to be".
  • You'll need to build and maintain strong relationships with people at all levels. You'll need to make sure projects deliver their intended benefits and that people are ready for the changes.
  • You'll need to communicate complex information in a range of formats and to different audiences.
  • You'll need to engage people in our project work, be able to make recommendations, and present arguments fluently and persuasively to achieve goals.

Desirable criteria

  • Possess a strong understanding of end-to-end project and software development lifecycles.
  • Are comfortable creating Agile User Stories and Acceptance Criteria.
  • Have excellent Microsoft Office skills (including Visio, ideally with experience of BPMN), and a high-degree of computer literacy.
  • Have experience of describing/defining integrations between platforms, through methods such as ETLs or APIs.
  • Take a continuous improvement approach to your practices, contributing to the review and introduction of industry best practice, tools and techniques.
