Maintenance Engineer

Salary: £55,000 Per Annum + Fantastic Benefits & Culture

Location: Manchester

3 Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday

Gap Technical is proud to be partnering with a leading national FMCG manufacturing business in their search for an experienced Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join their Manchester Facility. This role is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established and reputable organisation.

Role OverviewAs a Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the site through a range of engineering tasks. You will work closely with the production team to deliver timely maintenance, resolve breakdowns, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Operational Engineering

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, perform fault-finding, and implement effective repairs.
  • Identify root causes of issues and apply a "fix it right first time" approach.
  • Collaborate with the production team to coordinate and schedule engineering activities during the shift.
  • Accurately document all tasks, downtime, and handovers using the CMMS system.
  • Support other engineers during complex breakdowns or periods of high demand.
  • Provide cover during engineer absences (e.g., holidays or sickness).

Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)

  • Carry out scheduled PPM activities to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities in line with the PPM schedule.
  • Identify and report any equipment deficiencies to the Engineering Management team.

Site Standards and Compliance

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure compliance with company policies, Health & Safety regulations, and the Quality System.
  • Complete work-based risk assessments as required.
  • Ensure all engineering activities align with site procedures and safety protocols.

Training and Colleague Development

  • Support machine training for production operatives, ensuring understanding of basic operational efficiencies.
  • Work with relevant departments to ensure SOPs are up to date and properly followed.

Projects and Continuous Improvement

  • Work with the Engineering Manager to support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, cost, and safety.
  • Contribute to engineering projects, both major and ad hoc, as required.
  • Undertake personal projects aimed at enhancing equipment reliability and performance.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years' engineering experience in a fast-paced FMCG environment (ideally within the food industry).
  • HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent (preferably with an electrical bias).
  • Multiskilled with strong electrical competence.
